What is Vocal Odyssey?

Vocal Odyssey is a deep yet playful self-inquiry journey into the mystery and healing forces of our most intimate musical instrument - the voice.

The process invites us to move beyond the noise of the mind and open a doorway to a new relationship with our vocal expression, one that is transformative, honest, and alive. It brings us closer to our beautiful, raw, wild and imperfect human flow.

The voice is a bridge to something greater than ourselves, it is our connection to the prayer we carry. In this group, we reconnect with the simple, natural way of expressing our authentic voice, beyond judgment, painful beliefs, and limiting conditioning.

Meet Nessi Gomes

Nessi Gomes is a British–Portuguese singer-songwriter and holistic voice practitioner, internationally recognised for her unique approach to the voice as a gateway to emotional expression, inner alchemy, and human connection. She holds a BA (Hons) in Creative Expressive Therapies (2007) and is a holistic voice practitioner, certified in Holistic Voice Therapy with The British Academy of Sound Therapy (BAST, 2014).

Born on the island of Guernsey to parents from Madeira, Nessi grew up using singing and music as a way to navigate inner landscapes, transform emotion, and connect with the unseen. Her artistic and therapeutic roots naturally merged into what would later become the foundation of Vocal Odyssey.

As the founder and creator of Vocal Odyssey, Nessi has guided thousands of people across the world through retreats, workshops, and online journeys, inviting them into a deeper relationship with their voice. Her work blends vocal exploration, ritual, narrative inquiry, movement, and compassionate witnessing, offering a space where the voice becomes both anchor and portal, a place to meet oneself with honesty, tenderness, and courage.

Her musical career continues to influence and inspire her teaching. With a devoted global audience, Nessi’s songs and performances are known for their emotional depth, honesty, and textured soundscapes. This artistry forms the backbone of the Vocal Odyssey experience, where creativity becomes a path of healing, transformation, and reconnection with one’s authentic self.

Nessi currently leads retreats and gatherings around the world alongside her husband and collaborator, Lino Hermesh, and continues to develop the Vocal Odyssey Method, an evolving body of work rooted in presence, resonance, storytelling, and embodied expression.

Meet Lino Hermesh

Lino Hermesh is the manager and co-creator behind much of the work of Nessi Gomes and Vocal Odyssey. For over a decade, he has been a steady driving force supporting Nessi’s music, the evolution of Vocal Odyssey, and the growth of its retreats and workshops around the world.

Lino is certified in Holistic Group Voice Therapy with The British Academy of Sound Therapy (BAST, 2018) and is also a certified Wim Hof Method Instructor.

He holds a Diploma in Relational Mindfulness/Core Process Psychotherapy (Karuna Institute, UK, 2019) and has studied voice work with teachers such as Bobby McFerrin, Albert Hera, and the founders of Música do Círculo in São Paulo, Brazil.

He co-created Canta Com Amor during the lockdown years, a 12-hour global prayer and musical gathering that unexpectedly drew thousands from around the world to its first event. Intended as a one-off offering, it became a powerful communal space and inspired a year-long weekly series hosting artists globally and offering connection during a time of widespread isolation.

Lino’s approach to group support is practical, grounded, and deeply human. Music has always been a quiet yet steady thread in his life, and alongside Nessi’s work it has blossomed into something deeply meaningful. His sensitivity, playful nature, and genuine care bring ease and warmth to the spaces they hold together.

Within Vocal Odyssey, his contributions include facilitation support, group holding, organisation, and managing the logistical backbone of the retreats. His clarity and steadiness allow the emotional and creative work to unfold smoothly and safely.

Nessi and Lino met in 2010 at the Pachamama community in Costa Rica, beginning a shared path of creativity and partnership. They now live in Guernsey, where they raise their family and continue to guide Vocal Odyssey as a joint offering.

Voices From Our Community

"Nessi Gomes is not going to transform you into a pop star. In fact, instead of telling people how to sing she helps them to tap into the essence of self through voice, allowing participants to let go of stuff that is buried in their basement - trauma, pain or anger they managed to release elsewhere"
